Atrial Septal Defect (ASD), Ventricular Septal Defect (VSD) and Patent Ductus Arteriosus (PDA) are among the common congenital heart diseases in children. Small cases of these diseases do not harm children, and most of them heal spontaneously in the early period. Larger ones can cause heart failure in children over time.
There are two different treatment options for large size defects. One of these is the surgical treatment method, and the other is the closure of these lesions with the transcatheter method in appropriate cases.
Transcatheter closure is performed in children under general anesthesia by entering the large vessels in the groin (femoral artery / femoral vein), reaching the heart area where the lesion is located, and placing a special device of appropriate size produced for that type of lesions.
The operation of three patients diagnosed with Patent Ductus Arteriosus (PDA) and two Atrial Septal Defects (ASD) was performed by the Specialist Physicians of our Hospital's Pediatric Cardiology Clinic, with the support of Prof. Dr. He was successfully treated with the transcatheter closure method under the supervision of Abdullah ERDEM.
