Cardiology Specialist Assoc. Dr. Zafer BÜYÜKTERZİ: “Our heart is one of our most valuable organs. We need to follow some rules to protect our heart health. In order to avoid cardiovascular disease later in life, we must be careful about what we eat and drink. We can protect our heart health by staying away from pastries and fatty foods, eating a balanced diet rich in vegetables and fruits, and living a long-term healthy life. Apart from this, we should increase our regular physical activity. Walking at a light pace for 30 minutes a day, at least three days a week, ideally 5-7 days, is protective and important for our heart health.

Apart from this, we need to reduce daily salt consumption both in terms of cardiovascular disease and hypertension. One of the important problems of our age is cardiovascular disease and the other is hypertension. Hypertension is one of the most common diseases in the elderly population and can be prevented with treatment and diet. In this way, we can prevent cerebrovascular diseases, problems and complications that affect daily life. Thus, we need to reduce daily salt consumption in order to avoid getting hypertension and to control hypertension, if any.

We need to eliminate cigarettes and tobacco products, which are very important for our heart health, from our lives. Cigarettes and tobacco products are one of the leading causes of disease and death today. Smoking can cause heart disease, heart attack, as well as chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, lung cancer and life-threatening lower extremity peripheral arterial diseases.

In order to remove smoking from your life, you must first decide in your mind and heart. If you want to quit smoking but cannot, you can get the necessary support by applying to our hospital's "Smoking Cessation Polyclinic". Let's love and protect our hearts for our heart health." said.
