Another successful operation has been added to the list of successful surgeries performed within our hospital's Pediatric Gastroenterology Clinic. A 10-year-old child patient, urgently referred from outside the city with complaints of bile duct obstruction, was successfully treated using the advanced ERCP method applied at our hospital.

Dr. [Name of Doctor] Mehmet Akif Ağır states, “Endoscopic Retrograde Cholangiopancreatography (ERCP) is an advanced and specialized procedure that allows access to the duodenum and intervention in the bile and pancreatic ducts using a special endoscope advanced through the mouth. This method can remove stones and sludge causing bile duct obstruction, and if necessary, stents can be placed to maintain bile flow.

Our hospital's Pediatric Gastroenterology Clinic is one of the few centers in our country that can offer this service to pediatric patients. We performed emergency ERCP on a 10-year-old patient who was referred to our center for emergency treatment, addressing their bile duct obstruction on the same day. We successfully removed the obstruction, restored bile flow, and placed a stent to ensure continuous drainage.

These successful results in critical cases are possible thanks to timely intervention, an experienced team, and the coordinated work of our pediatric anesthesia, intensive care, and surgical units. In addition to ERCP, our hospital also offers diagnostic and therapeutic endoscopy, colonoscopy, and PEG tube insertion.” Many advanced endoscopic services, such as placement, are being successfully performed.

It should be remembered that in children, symptoms such as severe abdominal pain, jaundice, fever, and dark urine may be signs of biliary tract diseases. In such cases, seeking immediate medical attention at the emergency department is vital.”
